As the information technology (IT) industry continues to grow, individuals who wish to enter this field may want to consider enrolling in campus-based or online schools that can help them enhance their qualifications.

To help these individuals succeed, many online colleges are creating a variety of certificate programs that can help budding IT professionals determine their specialties. For example, one university recently announced the availability of 10 new certification programs, which are intended for entry-level or mid-career workers in the IT industry.

Students at the school may choose to earn undergraduate certificate in computer systems and networks, cyber crime, information systems security, internet webmaster, IT project management, Microsoft Office applications, visual basic application development, web 2.0 or visual communications.

Each program will require students to complete six courses for a total of 18 credit hours. Certificate holders may apply these credits to a related associates or bachelors course of study, such as a database technology degree program.

Individuals who earn similar certifications may see improved career prospects, as the Bureau of Labor Statistics expects that the demand for information and systems managers will increase by 17 percent over the next eight years.
